About Us
Blackmore Painting & Decorating is a residential decorating company built around a simple idea: if a job is worth doing, it’s worth preparing properly.
We work with homeowners across Chelmsford and the surrounding areas on everything from complete home redecorations and renovations to detailed woodwork, staircases, wallpapering and exterior restoration. Whatever the scale of the project, the same standards apply: careful preparation, quality materials, clear communication and respect for the home we’re working in.
Built on the details
The finished coat is only part of the job. Much of the work that determines the quality of a project happens before that point.
We take the time to correct defects, stabilise loose or moving surfaces, properly prepare existing coatings and choose the right products and systems for the material we’re working with. It’s an approach that takes longer than simply painting over what’s already there, but it produces the kind of finish we’re happy to put our name to.
A personal service as we grow
Blackmore is growing, but we’re determined not to lose the personal approach that has helped build the business.
Alex is increasingly focused on quotations, customer communication and project management, while Harry continues to oversee workmanship, quality control and training. As the company develops and additional decorating teams are introduced, those same standards will remain at the centre of how every project is delivered.

Not every homeowner knows which paint system, finish or approach is right for their property, and we don’t expect them to.
We’re happy to advise on products, finishes, colours and the practical side of a project, explaining what we recommend and why. The aim is to help you make informed decisions and give you confidence in the work before it begins.
Working in your home
We understand that having decorators in your home requires trust. That’s why protection, cleanliness and communication are treated as part of the job rather than extras.
Floors and surrounding areas are protected carefully, dust extraction is used where appropriate and we keep customers informed throughout the project. At the end of the job, the aim is simple: an excellent finish and a home that has been treated with care throughout.

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation quotations. Depending on the project, we will either arrange a brief site visit or request photos and details so we can prepare an accurate, fixed quotation.

It depends on the size and scope of the project. Smaller rooms can often be completed in a few days, while larger or more detailed projects may take longer. We’ll give you a clear timeframe before we start.

We ask that small items and valuables are removed where possible. We’re happy to carefully move larger furniture and fully protect floors and surfaces before starting work.
